Information
The under 9 program at Northern District Hockey has previously been an internally run skills based program for 1 hour each week plus 3 to 4 local Saturday morning mini carnivals held across the regular season. Each week the program would involve a mixture of skill drills and small-sided games while the mini carnivals would be six-a-side games against other hockey clubs. Children are usually grouped according to age and friendship.
2012 will see the first U9 weekly Competition between local clubs. More information regarding the structure of this new exciting competition should be available in early March 2012.
Training 2012 – Pennant Hills Park
Begins Monday 19 March 2012 6pm to 7pm for all U9 players.
Competition 2012
Games
It is expected the U9 teams will play in a local North Area competition of 8 games throughout the second school term of 2012. These games will either be early Friday evening or Saturday morning. The games will be modified to either 6-8 aside and played on a quarter field with no goal keepers. There is also potential to play Gala Days on Saturday morning in the third school term of 2012. More information will be available early March.
Coaching
Many of the coaches are high school students who are completing Duke of Ed coaching courses. Parents are required to assist with supervision of children. Parents are also encouraged to assist with coaching so please bring a stick and joggers if you have them.
Equipment
All children need a stick, mouthguard and shin pads. Please note that HOCKEY NSW states that children are not permitted to enter the turf without wearing shinpads and mouthguard.
Wet Weather
The turf is an all weather turf and as such training will go ahead if raining. So bring your rain coat and come out and play in the rain. If you or child doesn’t want to train in the rain and the cold ….. that’s OK too! The only time training is off is if there is lightening or the field is flooded
Please feel free to approach any ND Committee member at any time with any questions.
