May 2007

On Sunday May 20th, Northern District helped Sydney University celebrate its 100th Anniversary by sending a combined U13/U11 team to play a friendly game against them on the grass field at The Square, Sydney Uni and each player received a commemorative hockey ball for participating in the game. It was a close game on the grass as both teams struggled to get used to the playing surface as opposed to playing on turf and found it difficult to string passes together or dribble the ball. Sydney Uni won the game 1-0 with a second half goal. Thanks to the parents and players for coming out on Sunday to play in this game.

Indoor Hockey Season
The Sydney Junior Indoor Competition has finished, with both U13 teams performing very well and showing strong improvement over the season.

The Gold team made the finals in A division finishing 4th and played 1st place Moorebank in the semi. A very exciting and even game finished in a 6-6 draw, with ND nearly scoring the winner with 5 seconds to go in the match. The draw meant the team was eliminated based on ladder position. Thanks to Hawko for coaching the team, they certainally saved their best game for the semi.

The Blue team finished 6th in B division. If a few of the close losses had turned into wins or draws they could have made the finals. As a young team playing in the 13's they showed excellent improvement over the year.
